Looking for the best ice cream parlors in New York? Look no further for frozen treats! We’ve rounded up the coolest New York-only favorites.
When it comes to frozen treats in the Midwest in the 80s, we had an ice cream option: Dairy Queen. Don’t get me wrong, this twist cone hit the mark, but its simplicity certainly makes the variety of cold treats in New York all the more impressive. Top of the list of parenting joys has to be those excited eyes my daughters get when they get a frrrozen hot chocolate, ice cream or ice cream! Go beyond the basic cone and try something new and cool this summer.
From popsicles in Crown Heights to plant-based ice cream in Little Italy, we have the tastiest and most unique frozen treats in town. We have also rounded the best ice cream parlors in new york and the best places for outrageous sundaes in new york. Beyond these treats, check out other kid-approved dishes in our Guide to family restaurants in New York.

Best Ice Cream Places and Cold Treats in NYC for Kids
1. Marvel, Inc. Frozen Dairy Products –Astoria, Queens
Sweltering summer in the city, beware, this classic Queens spot is ready to deliver some soft frozen treats that are sure to beat the heat. With a variety of flavors and cones, you can’t go wrong. The walk-in window also makes it a great option for a sweet treat on the go, but feel free to relax in its outdoor seating area.
What to order: My daughters love twisting the plant-based birthday cake and mango soft drink in a homemade sugar cone.
2. Reverie –Clinton Hill, Brooklyn
This is my kids’ new favorite place, and I can see/taste why. This hip new spot offers plant-based frozen treats and local flavors to boot. Last time we were there there was makeup and a DJ in front. It’s like a dance party with ice cream; frankly, a childhood fantasy! With multiple stations for soft serve – be warned you’ll pay by weight – milkshakes and ice cream sandwiches, every choice is the right choice.
What to order: Ask them to make you an ice cream sandwich on the spot with homemade cookies and ice cream.

3. Figo Il Gelato Italiano – Little Italy
Speaking of ice, run away from it! Little Italy’s Figo is arguably the best in town. Rich, creamy and authentic, you’ll leave here full of frozen goodness. As a bonus, it also offers plant-based frozen treats for vegans and those who are lactose intolerant.
What to order: The panino gelato, a homemade brioche bread with a scoop of ice cream inside. It’s even better with cannoli ice cream!
4. Ro’s Dinner –Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Probably the coolest (understood?) restaurant in Brooklyn. Ro’s Diner (formerly Champs) is the place to go to revisit all of New York’s restaurant staples. Think the classic bacon and egg joint in the morning, a Cuban sandwich for lunch, and meatloaf and mashed potatoes for dinner. The plus is that they are all herbal! This includes frozen treats, which, let’s be honest, are good any time of the day.
What to order: You have to go with a classic root beer float at Ro, and for the parents, hang in there with a craft cold brew
5. VanLeeuwen – Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn sites
You may have noticed that this longtime favorite has grown, with new locations popping up all over town recently. A new one has just opened next to me in Astoria, score! There’s a reason for that, her frozen treats are stellar. It also changes its flavors on the reg, so depending on how often you go for your frozen fix, there’s a chance for a new experience.
What to order: If there’s strawberry shortcake on the menu, you really shouldn’t choose anything else.
Get some popsicles at Davey’s Ice Cream to stay cool.
6. Davey’s ice cream – Green Point, Brooklyn
From the East Village to the streets of Brooklyn in 2017, Davey’s Ice Cream has quickly become a go-to hangout for Greenpoint locals. But, with the care he puts into his frozen treats, the word got out. Bonus: Brooklyn’s best slice joint, Screamers, is just down the street. Frozen delicacies and pizzas, come on, life is beautiful!
What to order: Get a great roasted pistachio to share with the whole family, and I promise you won’t regret it.
7. Serendipity 3 – Upper East Side
It’s hard to imagine a list of frozen treats in New York without that iconic dessert shop. There’s a reason for that: it’s delicious! Recently renovated and reopened, Serendipity 3 has been chilling New Yorkers and strangers alike for over 70 years.
What to order: Locals already know what I’m going to say here: you have to go for Frrrrozen hot chocolate, made with 14 types of cocoa blended together to create one of the best chocolate milkshakes you’ll ever try.
Unique flavors help you stay cool at Island Pops.
8. island lollipops –Crown Heights, Brooklyn
Let’s end the list with the oft-forgotten summer saviour; pop ice cream. With a slew of handmade popsicle flavors, Island Pops is bringing a little taste of the Caribbean to town. For those who still poop those frozen treats, it also has unique flavors of artisanal dairy and vegan ice cream.
What to order: Grab a guava lollipop in one hand, lemon-lime basil in the other, and discover a beautiful Brooklyn neighborhood that most people miss.
