Larry Nassar, a disgraced former American gym doctor and convicted sex offender, is making headlines again after he was apparently stabbed several times in prison. On Sunday, he was in an altercation with another inmate and was stabbed in the back and chest, according to the Associated press. He is now in stable condition.
Nassar, who pleaded guilty to sexually abusing underage girls during his tenure as the United States and Michigan State gymnastics team physician, has been in prison since 2017. At the time, more than 300 women presented stories of sexual abuse by Nassar disguised as “medical treatment”, and he was sentenced to life in prison.
Much of his abuse took place at Karolyi Ranch, the United States National Gymnastics Team training facility in Huntsville, Texas, run by gymnastics training legends. Bela and Marta Karolyi. Parents were not allowed inside the ranch, which allowed the Károlyis to push teenage gymnasts to physical extremes—even focusing on the weight of children—unchallenged by adult guardians.
While Nassar’s abuse continued at Karolyi’s famed ranch and training facility, it also happened at John Geddert’s Twistars USA Gymnastics Club in Michigan, Michigan State University, and at the home in Holt, Michigan, which he shared with his then-wife, Stephanie, and their three children.
Larry Nassar’s ex-wife, Stephanie, has been mentioned throughout Nassar’s abuse coverage, which might make you wonder: who is she?
Stephanie still works as a pediatric assistant.
Stephanie attended Michigan State University in 1992. She earned a master’s degree from the University of Detroit in 1999 with a master’s degree from their Physician Assistant Program, by The sun. Today, Stephanie continues to work as a pediatric assistant in Lansing, Michigan.
She filed for divorce in 2017.
According to a report by In weekly contact, Stephanie filed for divorce on January 25, 2017 and was granted a divorce within six months. She was also granted sole custody of their three children – two daughters and a son, by The sun. Neither she nor her children were present for Larry’s sentencing and court proceedings last year, per Inquisitor.
Some of Larry’s victims were at his wedding to Stephanie.
Larry and Stephanie were married on October 19, 1996, at St. John’s Catholic Church in East Lansing, Michigan, according to The sun.
Sarah Klein, one of Larry’s first victims, knew Stephanie (whose maiden name is Anderson) when she was Nassar’s girlfriend, according to Huffpost. Later, she and at least one other victim, Trinea Gonczar, attended the couples wedding.
She was named in a federal lawsuit against Michigan State University.
One of the sexual abuse survivors, Alaina Bamfield (who read a victim impact statement at her sentencing), claimed she was referred to Larry by Stephanie, who worked as a medical assistant. Bamfield was later abused by Larry after he sought treatment for neck, back and hip pain, Fox 47 News reported.
