In a cover story published on June 21 by The Hollywood ReporterTaylor talked about Dazed and confused alum Matthew McConaughey made its debut in the Yellowstone universe. Confirmation previous reports of the actor negotiating his own spin-off show, Taylor expressed his feelings about Matthew’s impact on the franchise. As he told the outlet, the two have been discussing the opportunity for longer than fans realize.
“(Matthew) seems like a natural fit,” Taylor said. THR. “We had a few conversations over the years and spat out a few ideas. Then he started looking Yellowstone and answered it. He was like, ‘I want to do this.’ And by “it” he meant diving into a raw world clashing with the modern world. And then I said, ‘Dude, we can do this.'”

As for the role Matthew will play in the new Yellowstone spin-off, Taylor didn’t divulge too many details on the matter. But he hinted at a few key points about the Dallas Buyers Club in-universe star character, which will focus on a new cast in a different setting.
“There are a lot of places where a way of life that’s been around for 150 years is colliding with a new way of life, but the challenges are completely different,” Taylor told the outlet. “There are a lot of places where you can tell that story.”
While mum is the word on how this story will pander to expansion Yellowstone universe (like the next 1883 spin off Lawyers: Bass Reeves), it’s possible that Matthew will interact with familiar stars from the original drama. In May, Deadline noted that several actors have received offers to transition to the new show, which means worlds could collide in ways no one would have thought.
