Donna Sue Shaw is from Grand Isle, Vermont, a small town on an island in Lake Champlain.
She is the talent behind her home bakery known as Donna Sue Bakes + Cooks. An avid baker, Donna Sue began offering her baked goods to the public from a shed in her front yard at the height of the pandemic. It was Donna Sue’s hope that passersby would use the shed as a place to stop and refuel as they traveled the bike path that crosses the island. And his pies have attracted visitors from all over.
Donna Sue tries to source all of her ingredients locally and sells her baked goods on an honor system. There’s no cash register, but rather a paper journal, Venmo QR codes, and a birdhouse where you can leave cash to pay for anything you take. In addition to sweet and savory pies, she sells granola, local maple syrup, cookies, scones and cakes, all handmade in her kitchen.
